CAUT Policy Statement
Trans academic staff have the right to the support they need before, during, and after their transition.
The Association and the Employer will make every effort to protect the privacy and safety of transitioning Members prior to, during, and post transition.
Upon request by a transitioning individual, the Employer shall immediately update all employee records and directories to reflect the employee's name and gender change.
Transitioning academic staff members have the right to use the washroom/change room of their lived gender and the Employer should provide an optional gender-neutral washroom/ change room.
Benefit coverage for transition-related costs, and medical leaves of absence for transitioning academic staff members, will be provided/accommodated on the same terms as any other medical cost or leave.
Upon notification by an academic staff member wishing to transition, or at the request of the Association, the Employer will work with the Association and the employee to tailor the general transition plan to the employee’s particular needs including all leaves required.
